It’s grilling season and I know we all love a juicy, delicious burger! As Master Nutritionist I’m going to share my secrets on how I make the most delicious, flavorful and healthy bun-less burger.
Before I share my secret, I want to talk about hamburger meat. Everyone has a food budget, but I suggest only buying grass fed ground beef. It is so much healthier for you and is much easier to digest. And, with the extra flavor I don’t miss the extra additions like chips, buns or other sugary items on my plate. The flavor is much more satisfying than quantity. As the saying goes, “Quality over quantity”, still rings true. The difference in taste is incredible!
Living in Arizona, we use our grill year round. We even grilled Christmas Day this past year! It’s convenient for quick meals, keeps my kitchen clean and for grilling up a bunch of protein to use on our during the week. Being a mom of three boys, grass fed burgers are king in the Jordan home! We grill them a few times a month and we enjoy them bun-less. Here’s how we do it in the Jordan home…
INGREDIENTS:
1 pound grass fed ground beef
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Mc Cormicks Montreal Steak Seasoning
Pink Himalayan sea salt and peppercorn
2 tablespoons organic olive oil
4 ounces sliced organic avocado (topping)
1 over easy egg (topping)
Lettuce shells
DIRECTIONS:
Prep: Preheat grill and clean the grate.
Method: Break up the ground beef and evenly distribute the Worcestershire sauce and steak seasoning and olive oil.
Mix gently with your hands to distribute the seasoning and form into three balls. Gently press/pat into patties.
✨TIP: I learned from my Pops that if you make a slight depression in the center of your burger, it will help prevent it from puffing up in the middle.
Cook: Oil the grate. Season the outside of the burger patties with a light sprinkling of Pink Himalayan sea salt and peppercorns (both sides).
Grill to your desired level of doneness. I like mine a little pink in the middle. Serve with your favorite extras— like sliced avocado or an over easy egg— but skip the bun and opt for a fresh lettuce shell. It’s delicious!!
