It’s Question time!
As a Board Certified Master Nutritionist, who specializes in Metabolic Hormone Therapy for Weight Loss, I am asked all the time, CAN I JUST EAT HEALTHY AND SKIP ANY SUPPLEMENTS?
My answer is strait forward, yet needs to be expanded. Technically, yes, however, it would require an astronomical amount of food to meet your nutritional needs.
You can skip supplements… ONLY IF you eat:
- 42 bananas????????????????????????????????????????
- 35 tomatoes ????????????????????????????????????
- 5 gallons of spinach ????????????????????????????
- 5 quarts of nuts and seeds????????????????????
- 50 chicken legs. ???? ????????????????????????????
- 50 salmon filets ????????????????????????????????????
This is a list for just ONE DAY of your nutritional needs! However, if you do so, you now are most likely headed toward becoming a diabetic and extremely overweight.
Therefore, my expert opinion as a Top 10 Master Nutritionist in America is NO, you can’t receive all the health benefits from just healthy eating alone.
If you are a normal human and you eat normal human amounts of food, then I believe absolutely we need to support our bodies with supplements. On the surface, eating healthy food alone makes sense. After all, if you are eating an organic based, whole, fresh, unprocessed foods, shouldn’t you be able to get an abundant supply of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other nutrients? Sadly, NO! Our number one health issue in America, Canada, Australia and parts of Europe is that our food is nutritionally deficient and is causing a plethora of other issues. From diabetes, to cancer, to autoimmune diseases, they all stem from our food sources.
Unfortunately, things aren’t as easy as eat an apple and you’re going to lose weight. Or eat chicken breast and you will build muscle. Or cut out whole food groups, like carbs, and you’re going to be perfect. Our foods don’t have the amino acids or phytonutrients they once did.
In fact, amino acids that were once abundant have drastically declined over the last five decades. Amino acids have plummeted by over 500%! This is why we are seeing more early aging, autoimmune illnesses and obesity!! ????
We cannot get away from the need for nutritional supplements. Even with a perfect diet, the combination of many things—including our depleted soils, the storage and transportation of our food, genetic alterations of foods, and the increased toxins, stress and emotional demands—make it impossible for us to get the vitamins and minerals we need solely from the foods we eat. It’s a sad truth we must all face if we want to live at our healthiest in today’s culture.
Simply put, the evidence shows we cannot get away from the need for nutritional supplements.
